Historical
Byzantine Treasures
Long before the Ottomans, this peninsula was Nova Roma — the second capital of the Roman world. We start in the open-air spine of the ancient city, the Hippodrome, and read the obelisks like a timeline of empire. From there into Hagia Sophia, the church that rewrote what a building could be, and down into the cool half-light of the Basilica Cistern, where Medusa still watches the columns.
